Each week in the season which starts on April 1st., Phil Wood our Head Ghillie, produces
a report on who’s been catching fish, what they’ve been catching and with what lures.
These are produced as pdf files. Phil’s pre-season report is below. The first April
report of the season is on the right.
PRE-SEASON FISHING REPORT - March 2011
Not long to go now to open day, this is the 1st of April and anglers will be twitching
with anticipation to get out on the water and try out the killing patterns they have
tied over the winter months.
As usual if the weather is kind, early season can be great with small wets, lures
or even dries doing well.
Anglers are reminded that there are a few Salmon kelts in the lake and if caught
have to be released. This year again there will be a bottle of Penderyn whiskey to
the captor of the first fish of the season from a boat, from the boat a floating
or intermediate line will be best option with a Damsel Nymph, Montana on the point
then a Bibio, Black Pennel or something small and black will tempt a take or two.
Olives will hatch on the warmer days and Klinrhammers cdc or other Olive type dries
will do well. From the bank try a small weighted line with wet on the droppers. Favourite
boat drift will be Rectory bay down to Pentre stream, Pontoon down to Agony point
and the cae drift from the bank try the Rectory shore all the way to Pentre, then
proceed down to where the cae stream enters the lake but be sure not to fish to light
as there are some large fish seen to be feeding and we will be looking for food after
a long hard winter! Be warned.
Tight lines and hope to see you all on 1st April 2011.
Phil Wood.
